MEDIUM
Steel, Mulberry paper, Nettle and Oak bark
DESCRIPTION
Original
A hand-bent, shaped and welded steel frame supports this piece, allowing light to glow through both shade and base. The paper's unique texture is achieved through a traditional Japanese process called Momigami, which translates to 'kneaded paper.' This technique, once used by Japanese peasants who could not afford expensive fabric, strengthens the paper, giving it remarkable resilience.
The deep khaki-grey coloured shade is created by dyeing the paper with nettles gathered during spring in the English countryside. The golden tan base is dyed with the bark of ancient oak trees that have died naturally, rich with tannins.
