Hannah Ackroyd
BIOGRAPHY
Hannah Ackroyd (b. 1996, West Yorkshire, England) graduated with BA (hons) in Illustration and Animation at Kingston School of Art (2019), previously studying Graphic Communication at Escola Superior de Artes e Design (Porto, PT) and the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Leeds Arts University.
Hannah’s practice-led research explores various approaches to image-making through processes such as bookmaking, collage, printmaking, photography, and writing. Hannah explores these mediums as processes of recording and exploring the narrative interplay between them. Archiving ephemera and documenting places are the starting point to explore the relationship between personal and collective memory. Imagery and language become symbolic and instructive to the process of making as a mnemonic process; building a visual language that questions the representation and perception of images and places.
Hannah received a scholarship from the photography school IC Visual Lab (Bristol) in 2020 and worked as a residency coordinator, directing the international artist residency De Liceira’s ’18 (Porto, PT) after graduating.
