BIOGRAPHY

Tom Cubitt (b. Norwich, 1992) is a London-based artist and architect whose work explores the relationship between composed environments and performance. Growing up in Nottingham, he experimented with methods of representing movement through space, a theme that has continued to influence his artistic practice. After studying at the Bartlett School of Architecture, he now works as an architect, where his interest in how spaces are inhabited informs his artwork.
Tom’s process is characterized by a meticulous layering of colours, building textures that create depth and atmosphere, while leaving room for improvisation. His work often evokes abstracted environments, resembling the backdrops of an imagined stage production. He is particularly drawn to patterns of movement—whether choreographed ballet or dance routines—as well as quieter, more contemplative moments that he sees as stills from a theatrical performance.
