Sophie Pearce

Sophie Pearce is the founder of Béton Brut, a London-based gallery specialising in rare, form-led furniture from Europe and Japan. Sophie’s path to design was unconventional — she credits a university module on the politics of Utopia as a catalyst. Although ever-circling through time and space, her aesthetic is grounded in minimalism, materiality and shape — a philosophy evident in Béton Brut’s carefully curated collection, which coheres around functional art and sculptural forms.

WP: "What is your most beloved room in your home and why?"
Sophie: "My living room is a sanctuary juxtaposed of Regency architecture and pared back styling. Although the furniture is always shifting via the gallery — the in-flow is a source of inspiration and renewal. Dappled light floods in from three floor-to-ceiling French doors in a round bay. The trickle of a nearby fountain, a reassuring constant. I love the contrasts, looking up at a harsh 1970s Teli pendant made of Raflon and aluminium, set against old Georgian shutters and the foliage of the communal garden beyond."
