Bobbye Fermie
Bobbye (b. 1990, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) is interested in creating imaginary spaces. Through watercolour paintings, collage and paper sculptures, a female figure appears in settings that question the relationship of the figure and her surroundings.
Intimate in feeling, a single female character is often shown within the safe boundaries of their home or place of solace, blending in or standing out of their backdrop. The works are often introspective, and discover themes of isolation, intimacy, personal boundaries or social anxieties. Images of windows, views, theatre stages or drop curtains and daily rituals of the home are all interwoven, acting as symbols in the pieces.
In 2015, Bobbye finished the post graduate degree ‘The Drawing Year’ at the Royal Drawing School in London after completing her bachelor in Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. She has participated in several artist residencies including Porthmeor Studios (2021) and Hafod Residency (2016) and has exhibited at Wilder Gallery, Blue Shop Cottage, Christie's London and 155a Gallery amongst others.
Bobbye lives and works in London.
