WP: "What is your most beloved room in your home and why?"
Will: "The Dairy (Pantry). We’re currently restoring a farmhouse in south Northamptonshire and one of the reasons we bought it was because it retained the original step-down pantry (originally used as a dairy room to store milk and cheese). It’s 6ft underground, on the north side of the house with 15 cm thick flagstones, so it naturally stays very cool. The decoration is all original, whitewashed walls with brown wood work, just like you see below the stairs of traditional country houses. The stone steps down are one of my favourite features as they’re heavily bowed in the middle from years of wear. The plan is to gently restore the room, retaining as much of the original features and colourings as possible. We haven't started on it yet so it's not currently in full use but for now it houses a 12 ft trestle table in the middle covered with drinks, bowls and tins of food - typical pantry stuff really."
