Traffic Light by Georgia Grinter

"For Georgia Grinter’s first solo exhibition in London, Wondering People is proud to present ‘Traffic Light’, an extensive new series of colourful works on paper, canvas and yarn. Playing as ever with the forms of material, Grinter uses repeated shapes to explore her natural surroundings alongside the experience of escaping persistent health challenges and the demands of being bound to one’s body. They cite her deep mental forage into hallucinogenic spaces lifted from the concrete jungle of the city, triggering and alleviating the pent-up and peculiar moods in which she finds herself.

‘Traffic Light’ speaks to the fellow masses frazzled by the relentless hum of the city’s movements. Grinter’s whimsical and abstract pieces are born out of sensitivity, care, and fieriness towards the scenes around her. An existential obsession with the mundane periods of her day and her place within them see the recurring symbol of hands featuring in her paintings. Alluding implicitly to the cliché imagery associated with touch, they represent the wondrous ways humans experience life before processing it."
